Musical Walks
The Valloire Baroque Festival draws on the rich Baroque heritage of this village in the Maurienne region. Concerts and events take place in the Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, a remarkable example of Savoyard Baroque architecture, as well as in chapels and other “unusual” venues.
These places serve as a starting point for musical strolls through the surrounding hamlets, which were once bustling with activity.
The Musical Walks feature short concerts at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the church in Valloire.
Right after the 11 a.m. concert, festivalgoers are invited to take a walk to a small hamlet where they can enjoy a picnic lunch with the musicians. It’s a chance to chat with the artists in an intimate setting.
Lunch is followed by an informal talk in the chapel or in a barn in the hamlet, on topics such as music, aesthetics, cultural heritage, or local landmarks.
After this free performance and a walk back along the trails to Valloire, the event concludes with a second concert of the day at 5 p.m. at the church in Valloire.
The menu is à la carte.
The Musical Walks perfectly embody the festival’s oft-repeated motto: “The Valloire Baroque Festival brings together the joy of exertion and the joy of celebration—a dual pleasure found equally in mountain hikes and in the performance or listening to classical music.”
From the very first day, the Musical Walks have become a hallmark of the festival; regular festivalgoers enjoy gathering there.
