Trio Barock
by Les Barbarins Fourchus
The Trio Barock, or … how to make Baroque music accessible to everyone. Or… how a hundred per cent-proof American rock band, bewitched by classical music, went on tour in Europe with their chamber music trio.
Throughout the concert, their modern instruments delicately release the beautiful, rebellious Baroque music from its corset.
Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann-Sebastian Bach, Benedetto Giacomo Marcello, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Antonio Vivaldi, James Oswald… and a few little-known gems take on a rocking sparkle as they wildly go electric! Never missing a single quaver rest of the scores, though.
The trio is accompanied by a stylishly eccentric mistress of ceremonies. An almost English-speaking performer, she punctuates the programme with poems and anecdotes of questionable authenticity and relevance, yet steers the concert through various hazards and digressions.
Compagnie Les Barbarins Fourchus
Riding the rough waters of retro-modern song, rock, electro, jazz, but also theatre, circus or cinema, Les Barbarins Fourchus “defy the slurs of the aesthetics police” and have been dragging around their rackety bandwagon since 1992 to the streets, marquees, café terraces, small theatres and festival stages of the whole of France and Navarre. They make words, hearts and bodies dance to the tune of a delightful satire crafted from short stories and lofty sentiments, worldly gossips and intimate words.
An extraordinary cosmopolitan company, Les Barbarins Fourchus draw inspiration from artists as diverse as Boris Vian, Jacques Prévert, Zavatta, Fellini, Mad Professor, Orson Welles or The Clash. But their work is above all based on collective emulation, which allows them to build up a constantly evolving repertoire.
La Compagnie is now based at the Salle Noire, in the heart of the former Cémoi chocolate factory in Grenoble.

Educational activities of the Valloire baroque Festival
This year, as part of its educational activities, as part of its educational activities, the festival presents Le Trio Barock, with the aim of bringing together different imaginary worlds. Shuttling between the modern world and the Baroque era, the show will confront contemporary figures such as rockers and a mistress of ceremonies with the world of baroque music.
On the morning of Monday July 27th, around fifteen children from leisure centres in Valloire and the Maurienne valley, as well as other interested members of the public, will take part in workshops hosted by the artists. The aim of these workshops is to ingrate the children into the dynamics of the staging work for the show, by inviting them to imagine and embody an incongruous situation and/or a dreamlike apparition set to baroque music. This approach will be accompanied by creative art work. The aim of these workshops is to introduce participants to collective artistic practice, while raising awareness of the richness of the possible dialogues between apparently very distant cultural realms.
